Wildlife Poaching: Apprehended

July 28, 2018 – a truck carrying frozen and preserved wildlife was intercepted and its driver apprehended by the combined elements of the Philippine National Police and Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Community Environment and Natural Resources Office – PPC at the checkpoint station located in Barangay Sta. Lourdes, Puerto Princesa City.

The truck (RKT 807) was carrying:
21 pcs. Frozen Pangolin (Manis culionensis) meat
15 pcs. preserved Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
1 pc. Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas)
Bag of Pangolin scales

The above mentioned species are classified as Critically Endangered in accordance with PCSD Resolution No. 15-521 (A Resolution Approving the 2014 Updated List of Terrestrial and Marine Wildlife in Palawan and their Categories Pursuant to RA 9147).

The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development filed a case under RA 9147, otherwise known as the Philippine Wildlife Act against the driver of the truck.
