A team of experts from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Project Management Consultant (PMC) successfully completed its second dispatch visit to Palawan from January 27 to February 12, marking another milestone in the implementation of the Environment and Natural Resources Information System (ENRIS) for Palawan towards Food Security and Climate Change Response project.
The 13-member PMC team from KOICA PMC, led by Project Manager Mr. Changhwan Yu, worked closely with staff of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD), particularly from the ECAN Policy Research and Planning Division (EPRPD) and the ECAN Monitoring and Evaluation Division (EMED). The mission focused on finalizing sites for the installation of Automated Weather Stations (AWS) and Weather Monitoring Stations (WMS) across key municipalities in Palawan.
During the dispatch visit, the joint team conducted field assessments in the municipalities of Aborlan, Narra, Brooke’s Point, Jose Rizal, Quezon, Roxas, Taytay, and El Nido. These locations were carefully evaluated to ensure optimal placement of the Automatic Weather Station (AWS) and Water Monitoring Station (WMS) that will strengthen the province’s environmental data system and improve climate-related decision-making.
Beyond the technical site assessments, the delegation also met with municipal mayors and local technical staff to present the objectives and long-term benefits of the ENRIS project. The discussions highlighted how improved weather and environmental monitoring can support food security, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction across Palawan. Local government units (LGUs) warmly welcomed the initiative, expressing strong support and committing to providing the necessary assistance to ensure successful project implementation.
The ENRIS project is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of local governments and communities to access reliable environmental data, enabling more informed planning and timely responses to climate-related challenges.
The project launching and ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between PCSD, the Provincial Government of Palawan, and the participating LGUs is targeted for the first or second week of May, symbolizing a strengthened partnership toward sustainable development and climate resilience in the province.
