Six business establishments in Palawan signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with JCI Puerto Princesa Peacock and Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) to eliminate the use of plastic straws, Sunday, at Best Western Plus Ivywall Hotel.

The MOA under the project “Skip the Straw, Save a Turtle” states that the contracting parties, mainly hotels and restaurants, will highly encourage customers to “limit and eliminate the use of plastic straws.”

Skip the Straw agreement aims to protect Palawan’s wildlife, especially the marine turtles, since Palawan is known for being a home to five out of the seven species of marine turtles.

The following are the business establishments who recently signed the MOA:
• Best Western Plus The Ivy Wall Hotel
• All in One RestoBar; Cacaoyan Forest Park
• Burp Bakeshop Café
• Menungang Eldew Café
• La Terrasse Café

Back in 2016, PCSDS and JCI Peacock has started to partner in raising students’ awareness on issues about wildlife, under JCI Philippine’s Think Green Program. In 2017, the Skip the Straw, Save a Turtle was initiated.

To date, there are now a total of 31 business establishments who has signed the MOA that bind them to stop using plastic straws.
