As part of the year-long celebration of the 25th Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) Anniversary, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) has been conducting an information, education, and communication (IEC) caravan across the province.
The IEC caravan is an activity organized by the PCSDS ECAN Education and Enforcement Division (EEED) in cooperation with the Operations Department to cater to the needs of the District Management Offices in implementing the PCSD policies and mandates, as well as the different environmental laws the agency is tasked to implement.
“This is to encourage the local government units (LGUs) and local communities to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of PCSD with us,” said Ma. Christina D. Rodriguez, PCSDS EEED Chief. “Also, we’re doing this to make PCSD more visible to communities by rendering them basic services we provide.”

The IEC caravan’s first stop was in Cagayancillo town last March 8-18. The series of info drives in select areas was participated by a total of 27 public officials and 592 individuals composed of elementary and secondary students and teachers in different schools.
“During the discussions, it was found out that environmental law violations in the town exist due to the lack of awareness of the people on existing laws and policies,” said George Saragena, IEC specialist of the PCSDS EEED.
“For example, reports reaching barangay officials say that some of the residents possess chainsaw units without Certificate of Registrations, thereby violating the Chainsaw Act,” he said. “It was also attested by some of the students who admitted their parents own and possess unregistered chainsaw units.”
In relation, teachers were advised to conduct a refresher activity about the different topics presented to ingrain it to the minds of the students. The institutionalization and operationalization of the municipal-based establishment of the Kiddie Wildlife Savers Club and Youth Savers Club are also seen to attain this end.
