Rationale

The UN-Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were put in place after the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to attain a more universal and more inclusive outcome. The SDGs, composed of 17 goals and 169 specific targets, envision an improved quality of life of all nations through sustainable development involving all sectors.

Guiding the people in combating the contemporary issues and preparing for the future, monitoring the attainment of the SDGs is important to keep track of the world’s milestones. Being the first ever agreement between all nations targeting a common objective, success stories and progress reports can further influence other nations to push thru and continue amidst the changing environment.

The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development in collaboration with partner government agencies, academic institutions, and non-government organizations through the Palawan Knowledge Platform has been hosting the annual Palawan Research Symposium and National Conference on Sustainable Development since 2014.  Through these conferences, professional researchers, academic institutions, delegates and students from Palawan and throughout the country are gathered to share their research endeavors. Government officials and policy makers are likewise invited to take heed of latest scientific information and innovations in tackling the issues and policies towards sustainable development. Recognizing the need to continuously work towards scientific based decision and policy making, it is deemed necessary and timely to elevate the efforts in keeping abreast of the researches and experiences from the international community.
