Philippine Biosphere Reserve Network (PhilBRnet) Launched

The Philippine Biosphere Reserve Network (PhilBRnet) was successfully launched on 20 June 2018 at the Citystate Asturias Hotel in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan through signing of commitment/agreement between the three representatives of Biosphere Reserves (BR): Albay, Puerto Galera and Palawan, and UNESCO National Commission representatives. Deputy Executive Director III Linday Barientos representedthe UNESCO-Philippines, MENRO Joan Yap represented Puerto Galera BR, Ms. Dorothy Colle represented Albay BR, while PCSDS Executive Director Nelson P. Devanadera represented the Palawan BR.
 
The Protected Area Superintendents of the the two (2) UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the province, Ms. Angelique Songco of the Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park and Ms. Elizabeth Maclang of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, also joined the activity together with Ms. Rhodora Ubani of Palawan PENRO and Atty. Carlo Gomez of the City Government of Puerto Princesa. The group had a chance to discuss and interact with the managers of both sites to understand how these areas are managed. A visit to the Palawan Flora and Fauna Watershed Reserve, Palawan Heritage Center, and Baragatan sa Palawan Trade Fairfollowed to observe and experience the natural, cultural and historical characteristics of the Palawan BR.
