Culion, Palawan– On August 4, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) District Management Division (DMD) – Calamian joined the participants of the 12th International Conference on Cycad Biology (CYCAD 2023) in their cycad species site visitation in Sitio Quezon, Barangay Malaking Patag.
Last July 24-28, 2023, the international conference was held in Clark Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga for cycad enthusiasts across the globe to discuss the cycad species’ taxonomy, conservation, and preservation.
The site visitation of the CYCAD 2023 in Sitio Quezon was instrumental for PCSDS, Municipal Tourism of Culion, Bantay Culion, Municipal Agriculturist Office, and Municipal Engineering Office, and the Local Government Units (LGU) of Culion to glean a deeper understanding and insight on the importance of Cycas wadei in the municipality, inspiring further research on the pressing conditions of the species in the municipality in furtherance of its conservation and protection.
Cycas wadei is a species of Cycas endemic in Culion, and is already one of the Critically Endangered species in the Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
