The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development supports the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center in the celebration of the “Crocodile Conservation Week”, March 6-11, 2018 with the theme “Forever ang Buhay-Ilang kung Pangangalagaan”.
The crocodiles in Palawan, despite their fearsome facade, are facing a crisis in their own natural habitat. As the depletion of mangrove areas are continuous, the crocodiles move from their natural habitat and breeding grounds towards the areas inhabited by humans, causing conflict between ecosystems. It is important that the conservation of their habitats be strengthened through IEC campaigns, research, community perception, establishment of crocodile sanctuaries, mangrove rehabilitation and provision of alternative livelihoods to those who are reliant to areas near the crocodile habitats.
