PALAWAN COUNCIL FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
(R.A. 7611)
Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
PCSD RESOLUTION NO. 98-122
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE BUREAU OF FISHERIES AND AQUATIC RESOURCES (BFAR) TO ISSUE PERMIT TO YUKI AQUA-CULTURE CORPORATION FOR THE EXPORT TO JAPAN OF 50 KG PER DAY OF TRIDACNA CROCEA LOCALLY KNOWN AS “LET-LET”
WHEREAS, based on the initial survey conducted by the UP Marine Science Institute, Tridacna Crocea, locally known as “let-let” is abundantly found in the shallow waters of Coron and other areas in Palawan;
WHEREAS, “Let-let” gathering is a primary source of livelihood, particularly for the Tagbanua in Coron Island. It is sold locally at very low prices to the disadvantage of the poor gatherers. Allowing its exportation to Japan will improve the market prices that will directly benefit those primarily dependent on its gathering for support;
WHEREAS, the YUKI-AQUA CULTURE CORPORATION requested for permit to transport 100 kg per day of “let-let” from Palawan to Japan;
WHEREFORE, upon the motion by Honorable Vicente Sandoval, duly seconded by Honorable Acting Governor Joel T. Reyes, the Council:
RESOLVED, as hereby it is RESOLVED that the Department of Agriculture, through the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, be authorized to issue CITES permit for the shipment from Palawan to Japan of not more than 50 kg per day of T. crocea (“let-let”).
RESOLVED FURTHER, that the gathering of T. crocea be regulated and regularly monitored by the Council.
RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be furnished the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Department of Agriculture and other concerned entities for their information and appropriated action.
APPROVED AND ADOPTED this 16th day of October 1998 in Quezon City.
I hereby certify to the correctness and accuracy of the foregoing resolution.
