The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) has approved the proposed partnership and authorized Acting Executive Director Nino Rey C. Estoya to sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with Large Marine Vertebrates (LAMAVE) Research Institute Philippines during the 300th PCSD Regular Meeting, March 30.
The said MOA shall cover the “PCSDS-LAMAVE Collaborative Project to Enhance Marine Megafauna Knowledge and Conservation in Palawan and Southeast Asia”. It will formalize and enable LAMAVE and PCSDS to formulate strategies and activities aiming to enhance and bolster the marine wildlife conservation efforts in Palawan.
This partnership intends to facilitate and enhance data collection, compilation, and reporting of endangered, threatened and protected marine megafauna and their habitats; enhance local communities’ awareness and direct participation in the conservation and protection; identify, design, and implement mitigation strategies to reduce anthropogenic impact; and enhance and further develop a network of trained and capacitated marine wildlife first responders.
The Agreement will be valid for five (5) years.
