One male sub-adult Saltwater Crocodile (ππ³π°π€π°π₯πΊππΆπ΄ π±π°π³πΆπ΄πΆπ΄) was retrieved by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) after it was turned over by Mr. Danny Alipoon of Sitio Kinurong, Barangay Rio Tuba, Bataraza, Palawan on July 4, 2021.
Mr. Alipoon narrated that the crocodile was accidentally trapped in a fishing net nearby his residence. The subject area is within one of the tributaries of the Rio Tuba river.
The incident was reported to the Wildlife Trafficking Monitoring Officers (WTMOs)-Bataraza who immediately responded upon receipt of the report. They also coordinated with the Barangay Local Government Unit through Barangay Kagawad Doreen Saiyo for the retrieval of the crocodile.
After a thorough assessment of the wildlife species, it was released the same day at the inner part of the Rio Tuba river.
The Saltwater Crocodile, which is listed as “Critically Endangered species” under PCSD Resolution No. 15-521, has a length of 173 cms. and width of 20 cms.
