PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, Palawan — November 11, 2025. The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), in collaboration with the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) and the Provincial Government of Palawan, officially launched the Environment and Natural Resources Information System (ENRIS) for Palawan towards Food Security and Response to Climate Change Project through a kick-off meeting held at the Legislative Session Hall, Capitol Complex, Puerto Princesa City.
The event brought together key representatives from both the provincial and national levels, led by Mr. Cedric James Pulga, Chief of the Planning and Alignment Division under the Office of the Governor, who represented the Provincial Government of Palawan; Atty. Teodoro Jose S. Matta, MNSA, Executive Director of the PCSD Staff; and members of the KOICA Project Management Consultant (PMC) team headed by Mr. Jerry Yu, Project Manager.
The kick-off meeting officially signaled the start of the ENRIS Project’s implementation in Palawan, which will run until 2028. The initiative aims to strengthen the province’s capacity to collect, manage, and utilize environmental and natural resources data to support sustainable development, food security, and climate resilience.
As part of the project’s initial activities, fieldwork will be conducted from November 12 to 18, 2025 in selected municipalities. During this period, the PMC and PCSDS teams will meet with local government officials to assess project sites and identify appropriate equipment for installation.
A hybrid wrap-up meeting will follow on November 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with in-person attendees at the PCSD Conference Hall and online participation via Zoom. The meeting will present the results of the field assessments and outline the next steps for project implementation.
The ENRIS Project underscores KOICA and the Philippine government’s continuing commitment to advancing environmental governance and climate-resilient development in Palawan—recognized as the country’s last ecological frontier.
