Illegally purchased Hill Mynah and Blue-naped Parrot now in the care of PCSDS

After almost two months of ownership, a resident of Barangay San Rafael, Puerto Princesa, has come clean after illegally purchasing four Hill Mynahs and two Blue-naped Parrots from a vendor. In a statement, the anonymous resident cited a keen interest in birds as a reason for the ill-advised purchase, which she eventually regretted. Furthermore, discovering the gravity of her actions through Republic Act 9147, also known as the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act — “an act providing for the conservation and protection of wildlife resources and their habitats” — moved her to turn all the wildlife species in her possession over to the PCSDS to ensure their safety and proper care.

Meanwhile, on 3 September 2025, a juvenile Hill Mynah was discovered by a resident in a grassy area of Barangay Sta. Lourdes, alone and helpless. It was immediately brought to the Second Special Operations Unit–Maritime Group in Honda Bay, and the officials, posthaste, turned it over to the PCSDS for immediate care. Although attempts to find the nest were unsuccessful, the hatchling is now being closely monitored in the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC).

The Hill Mynah and the Blue-naped Parrot are on the list of Critically Endangered Species, the highest-risk classification for all wildlife according to PCSD Resolution No. 23-967.

In light of these cases, the PCSDS seeks to remind the public of the strict prohibition on wildlife trade, transport, and possession: “No person or entity shall be allowed possession of wildlife unless such person or entity can prove financial and technical capability and facility to maintain said wildlife.” These are disruptive acts that have disastrous implications for the care and conservation of Palawan’s biodiversity.

Upon discovery of wildlife species that are being illegally traded, injured, or in dangerous situations, please turn these over to the PCSDS.
