PCSD RESOLUTION NO. 95-75

RESOLUTION IDENTIFYING THE PROTECTED AREAS WITHIN PALAWAN TO BE COVERED BY PCSD RESOLUTION NO. 95-68.

WHEREAS, R.A. 7611 otherwise known as the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) for Palawan, took effect on 19 June 1992 and Section 6 of said Act provides that the SEP shall serve as the framework to guide the government agencies concerned in the formulation of plans, programs and projects affecting the environment and natural resources of Palawan.

WHEREAS, Section 16 of R.A. 7611 provides that the governance, implementation and policy direction of the SEP shall be exercised by the Palawan Council For Sustainable Development (PCSD), under the Office of the President;

WHEREAS, on 29 December 1994, (Mother ) Memorandum of Agreement was signed between Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the PCSD stating therein that all policies, plans, programs, and projects affecting the sustainable development of Palawan shall be approved by the PCSD and if required shall be implemented by DENR;

WHEREAS, pursuant to R.A. 7611, Opinion No. 90 Series of 1994 of the Department of Justice and the Above cited Memorandum of Agreement, the Council on 05 January 1995 in its 33rd Regular Meeting, resolved, through PCSD Resolution No. 95-68, that there shall be created a Protected Area Management Committee (PAMC) for each of the protected areas in the Province;

WHEREAS, there is a need to identify the protected areas within Palawan to be covered by PCSD Res. No. 95-68;

NOW THEREFORE, upon unanimous motion by all the members of the Council present, the Council;

RESOLVED, as it hereby resolve, that the Council identify, as it hereby identifies, the following areas to be covered by PCSD Res. No. 95-68;

  1. El Nido Marine Reserve, El Nido
  2. Calauit Wildlife Sanctuary, Busuanga
  3. Tubbataha Reef National Marine Park, Cagayancillo
  4. St. Paul’s Subterranean River National Park, Puerto Princesa City
  5. Ursula Island Bird Sanctuary, Bataraza

RESOLVED FURTHER, that the Council direct, as it hereby directs, the Palawan Council For Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) in coordination with concerned agencies to review other previously proclaimed protected areas, identify additional areas that require protection, and recommend to the Council areas within Palawan to be covered under PCSD Res. No. 95-68;

RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be sent to other concerned agencies, and local government units, for their information, consideration and appropriate action;

APPROVE AND ADOPTED, this 3rd day of February, 1995 in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
