A RESOLUTION REITERATING THE PROHIBITION ON PEBBLE QUARRY ALONG BEACHES AND SHORELINES AS PROVIDED UNDER SECTION 92 OF REPUBLIC ACT NO. 8550
WHEREAS, gathering of pebbles has been a source of income for people in the community, however, the gathering, extraction and utilization of such resources has contributed to the degradation of shorelines and beaches and if not controlled would aggravate the existing degradation;
WHEREAS, Section 92 of Republic Act No. 8550 otherwise known as the “Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998” has expressly prohibited the gathering of pebbles when it provides that “it shall be unlawful for any person or corporation to gather, sell, or export white sand, silica, pebbles and any other substances which make up any marine habitat;
WHEREAS, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development in several occasions in 1998 and 1999 has adopted the provisions of Republic Act No. 8550 for implementation in the province of Palawan and has consistently implemented the policy of banning pebble quarry in the shorelines and beaches;
WHEREFORE, upon motion of Atty. Joselito C. Alisuag, duly seconded, be it RESOLVED, as it is hereby RESOLVED, to reiterate the council policy prohibiting pebble quarry or gathering along the shorelines and beaches as provided under Section 92v of Republic Act No. 8550.
RESOLVED FINALLY, that copies of this resolution be furnished the concerned agencies for information and guidance.
