PCSD RESOLUTION NO. 01-187

“A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE IMMEDIATE LIFTING OF THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE’S PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT ON TRAVEL TO THE PHILIIPINES “

WHEREAS, in June 14, 2001, the U.S. Department of State issued a public announcement describing political violence, kidnapping and bombing incidents in the country and calling for all Americans to exercise extreme caution when considering travel to beach resorts in the Philippines;

WHEREAS, the said public announcements has drastically reduced the country’s tourist arrival, which deeply affected the tourism industry in the country, specially in well-known tourist destinations like Palawan;

WHEREAS, in the province of Palawan, after the isolated kidnapping case on May 27, 2001 described in the U.S. Department of State’s public announcement, no other terrorist incidence has taken place while the usual peace and serenity has been restored;

WHEREFORE, on motion of Rep. Abraham Kahlil B. Mitra, duly seconded, the PCSD resolves, as it is hereby resolved, to request the US Department of State, as it is hereby requested, for the immediate lifting of the Public Announcement dated June 14, 2001

RESOLVED FINALLY, that copy of this resolution be furnished the US Embassy in the Philippines.

ADOPTED and APPROVED this 31st day of August 2001 in Quezon City.
