A concerned citizen turned over a Palawan Porcupine after he found it roaming in a residential area in Brgy. San Miguel. According to him, he turned it over so it can be relocated to its rightful place.

The local, who refused to be named, said, “Sigurado po kasi na ‘pag nakita ng mga kapitbahay, gagawing pulutan. Mahilig po sa mga hayop ang anak ko kaya tinulungan ko. Kaya sana sa iba na makakakita ng mga wild na nasa panganib, tulungan din nila.”

Palawan Porcupine, locally known as “Durian”, is endemic in Palawan. It is included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. Unfortunately, this species of rodent is considered pest by some farmers who torture them. Aside from this, their population is threatened due to habitat loss.
