PCSD RESOLUTION NO. 93-12

RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND NATURAL RESOURCES (DENR) TO DONATE CONFISCATED LOGS/LUMBER FOR PUBLIC WORKS PURPOSES SUCH AS SCHOOL BUILDING, BRIDGES, AND OTHER PUBLIC STRUCTURES.

WHEREAS, Republic Act No. 7611 was enacted on June 19, 1992 to implement the Strategic Environmental Program (SEP0 for Palawan which has as general philosophy the sustainable development of the province;

WHEREAS, goal of the SEP is to strike a balance between development and environmental protection with Environmentally Critical Areas Network (ECAN) as the main strategy;

WHEREAS, on October 21, 1992 Department Administrative Order No.45 was issued by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources declaring a logging moratorium pending the identification and establishment by the Palawan Council For Sustainable Development of the Environmentally Critical Areas Network (ECAN) which is the main strategy of the said Program;

WHEREAS, in compliance with the said moratorium, government agencies, cooperative, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are faced with the difficulties of meeting the timber requirements of existing public works projects in the province;

WHEREAS, one of the sources of timber supply is the confiscated logs/timber by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and presently under its custody;

NOW, THEREFORE, the Palawan Council For Sustainable Development hereby resolves to request the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to donate confiscated logs/lumber for public works purposes such as school buildings, bridges and other public structures.

RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this Resolution be furnished the Honorable Secretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and all concerned for their consideration and appropriated action.
