The PCSDS Wildlife Trafficking Monitoring Unit (WTMU) seized 4 boxes of regulated fish species listed under PCSD Administrative Order No. 5, as amended, on September 6, 2021 at the Puerto Princesa City International Airport.
Based on the initial report from the PCSDS WTMU officers, the said boxes, which contained Leopard Coral Trout or Grouper (๐๐ญ๐ฆ๐ค๐ต๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฐ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ด ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ข๐ณ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ด), locally known as โSuno,โ were apprehended from one Mr. Kenneth Santiago, a resident of Brgy. Sta Monica. It was alleged that Mr. Santiago has no Wildlife Special Use Permit (WSUP) from the PCSD. Moreover, Mr. Santiagoโs possession and transportation of the herein-mentioned RFF species is alleged to be in violation of the September 5-9 โclosed season.โ
The incident has already been reported to PCSDS Legal Services Section for the filing of appropriate case/s against Mr. Santiago.
Aside from the specified dates provided by PCSD Admin. Order No. 5, as amended, the open and closed seasons of the RFF are implemented by the Provincial, Municipal, and/or City Government of Palawan. PCSD Admin. Order No. 5, as amended, is a comprehensive regulatory mechanism in accordance with RA 9147 or the Wildlife Act that further imposes the practice of sustainable fishing in Palawan.
