The PCSDS Wildlife Trafficking Monitoring Unit (WTMU) seized 4 boxes of regulated fish species listed under PCSD Administrative Order No. 5, as amended, on September 6, 2021 at the Puerto Princesa City International Airport.
Based on the initial report from the PCSDS WTMU officers, the said boxes, which contained Leopard Coral Trout or Grouper (𝘗𝘭𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘰𝘮𝘶𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘰𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘥𝘶𝘴), locally known as “Suno,” were apprehended from one Mr. Kenneth Santiago, a resident of Brgy. Moreover, Mr. Santiago’s possession and transportation of the herein-mentioned RFF species is alleged to be in violation of the September 5-9 “closed season.”
The incident has already been reported to PCSDS Legal Services Section for the filing of appropriate case/s against Mr. Santiago.
Aside from the specified dates provided by PCSD Admin. Order No. 5, as amended, the open and closed seasons of the RFF are implemented by the Provincial, Municipal, and/or City Government of Palawan. PCSD Admin. Order No. 5, as amended, is a comprehensive regulatory mechanism in accordance with RA 9147 or the Wildlife Act that further imposes the practice of sustainable fishing in Palawan.
