One Amboina box turtle or Southeast Asian Box Turtle (𝘊𝘶𝘰𝘳𝘢 𝘢𝘮𝘣𝘰𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴) was turned over to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff by Mr. Ramiel S. Guanco of Brgy. Bancao-Bancao, Puerto Princesa City on the night of 5 September 2022.
The turtle’s carapace is recorded to be 7.5 inches long and 7 inches wide, and its plastron measures 7.5 inches in length and 5 inches in width.
According to Mr. Guanco, the turtle was found last Sunday night (4 September 2022) crossing the highway of Barangay Bancao-Bancao. Mr. Guanco retrieved the species and reported the incident to PCSDS. He was then subsequently advised to turn it over to the PCSD Main Office for proper disposition, to which he gladly obliged.
The Southeast Asian Box Turtle is listed as “Endangered Species” under PCSD Resolution No. 15-521.
