The month of June in the Philippines is both celebrated on the 7th as World Environment Day and the whole month as World Environment month. In Palawan, June celebrations are almost everywhere. The Provincial Government is regularly celebrating the Baragatan sa Palawan (16-22 June) highlighting the 117th Founding Anniversary of the Civil Government of the province. Simultaneous with the province’s celebration is the SEP 22nd Anniversary Celebration on 19 June. UNESCO held its 4th Meeting of the World Network of Island and Coastal Biosphere Reserves (17-19 June), a treeplanting activity for the UNESCO delegation and Staff.
The last Saturday of June is set by the Puerto Princesa City Government for the 23th Year of Pista Y Ang Kagueban, a massive treeplanting activity dubbed “Feast of the Forest” that started in 1991. Palaweños are one of the environment-conscious people in this part of the region.
