๐ป๐๐ ๐น๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐๐, ๐ช๐๐๐๐, ๐ท๐๐๐๐๐๐- On October 10-13, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), in collaboration with University of Sydney in Australia, spearheaded โBook Sprintโ – a continuation of the Expert Elicitation Workshop (EEW) last April 2023.
The event aimed to fill in the gaps of the initial result of the EEW for the development of the State of the Marine Resources Report, for the implementation of the Marine Resource Initiative (MRI) Project in Palawan.
The event was led by Prof. Elaine Baker, Chair of UNESCO Marine Science from University of Sydney and Principal Investigator of the Marine Resources Initiativeโ Marine Spatial Mapping Project, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) through the Geoscience Australia (GA) and University of Sydney.
A writing exercise, where different marine resources specialists and researchers shared their technical knowledge of the marine resources in Palawan, was facilitated by Dr. Billy Tusker Haworth, University of Sydney Geospatial specialist, in collaboration with local marine experts: Dr. Benjamin Gonzales (Ret.), Dr. Maria Mojena Plasus, Dr. Roger Dolorosa, from the Western Philippines University.
Also present in the event were Mr. Edgardo Zabala Jr., seaweeds/algae specialist from the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist; PCSDS Forester Glenda M. Cadigal, mangrove specialist; and PCSDS Environmental Planner Ms. Cherry Lyn Jalover-Par, environmental management specialist; and Mr. Benedict Valloyas, PCSDS Geographic Information System Specialist, who also contributed in the writing of case studies.
The final result of the EEW will be used for the implementation of MRI Project in Palawan for marine conservation and protection, jointly implemented by PCSDS and Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS), and is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of Australia. #PCSDNews#PCSDUpdates
