𝐀𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐥 𝟏𝟓, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒- A Palawan Pangolin was rescued and subsequently turned over to the PCSDS DMO Culion by John Banadera, a staff member of the Culion Foundation Incorporation, in Sitio Pinutukan, Brgy. Malaking Patag, Culion, Palawan.

The pangolin was ensnared in a trap intended for chickens belonging to a member of the indigenous peoples (IP) in the area. The pangolin, spotted being carried by an IP member, caught the attention of Banadera while he was monitoring mangrove areas. Concerned for the animal’s welfare and recognizing its protected status, Banadera requested to hand it over to the PCSDS.

Pangolins are among the most trafficked mammals globally due to the demand for their scales and meat in traditional medicine and culinary practices.

The Palawan Pangolin holds critical ecological significance as an endemic species to Palawan and is designated as “Critically Endangered” under PCSD Resolution No. 23-967.

The PCSDS encourages fellow citizens who happen to encounter any live wildlife to leave them alone in their natural habitat. However, if said animal is under or poses an immediate risk, only then could they be turned over to our office or seek assistance by calling our hotlines: PCSDS Wildlife Enforcement Unit (WEU) at 0931-964-2128 (Smart), or the PCSDS Front Desk hotline at 0970-302-8554 (Smart) and Landline (048) 434-4235 / 434-4234.
