𝐇𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐲𝐧𝐚 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐮𝐞 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

In a coordinated effort involving personnel from 2nd Special Operations Unit-Maritime Group (SOU-MG) Quezon MSBC, 2nd SOU-MG Intelligence Operative, and the Palawan Provincial Task Force, a significant breakthrough was achieved in safeguarding wildlife. A joint law enforcement operation led to the interception of thirty (30) Hill Mynas, also known as Talking Mayna or Kiyaw, from the possession of a 34-year-old male farmer residing in Sitio Maluya, Barangay Candawaga, Rizal, Palawan. The individual lacked the requisite documents for the possession of these threatened avian species.

On the 26th of February 2024, the confiscated wildlife was transferred to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), where Mr. Ian Christian A. Vega, from the District Management Division South, ensured their safekeeping and appropriate handling.

This intervention aligns with Republic Act 9147 Section 27, which explicitly prohibits the exploitation of wildlife resources and their habitats, encompassing actions such as killing, destruction, collection, trading, and transportation of wildlife, except under specific circumstances enumerated by the law. Notably, Hill Mynas have been classified as a Critically Endangered Species by the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, as per PCSD Resolution No. 23-967.
