On September 16, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) participated in the worldwide observance of the 30th International Coastal Clean-Up (ICC) by cleaning the coasts of Bgy. Bagong Silang, and joining the โ€œLongest Mudbal Throwingโ€ at the Puerto Princesa Bay.

With the theme: “Clean Seas for Healthy Fisheries: Sustainably Feed the Global Population,โ€ the event emphasized the intricate value of the cleanliness of oceans in the well-being of the worldโ€™s biodiversity. It drew the participation of different private and public sectors in Palawan.

An event of immense significance in worldwide oceanic conservation and protection, it was spearheaded by the Local Government Unit of Puerto Princesa City through City Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron, who also serves as the concurrent Puerto Princesa Council for Sustainable Development (PPCSD) Chair; in collaboration with the Civil Service Commission, and Palawan Electric Cooperative (PALECO).

Speaking on behalf of Mayor Bayron in a message, Puerto Princesa City Administrator Atty. Arnel Pedrosa pinpointed some of the detrimental factors that endanger our waters such as pollution. He also commended the significance of the participantsโ€™ collective actions to resolve it.

“Mula po sa pamahalaang lungsod ng Puerto Princesa bilang kinatawan ni Hon. Lucilo R. Bayron. Kami po ay sinserong nagpapasalamat sa inyong pagtugon ngayong umaga upang muling linisin ang ating mga baybayin, [ang] ating mga waterways, ang ating tabing-dagat,” he said.

PCSDS in other municipalities of the province also participated in the observance of the event.

PCSDS has always been participative and supportive of ICC since it started in 1994, until its institutionalization through Proclamation No. 470 by former Philippine president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, in 2003.
