DUMARAN, PALAWAN โ The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), through its ECAN Education and Extension Division (EEED), conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity in Dumaran on September 18, 2025, to raise awareness of environmental laws and sustainable development.
The program began with opening remarks from Atty. Irish R. Villamor, EEED Head, and Municipal Administrator Arnold Benedel Maderaje, highlighting the importance of community participation in environmental governance.
PCSDS resource speakers delivered lectures on the Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan Act (RA 7611), Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147), Ecological Solid Waste Management Act (RA 9003), and Chainsaw Act (RA 9175), along with discussions on the Palawan Biosphere Reserve and Gender and Development (GAD). Interactive sessions and a Training and Needs Assessment (TNA) helped participants identify environmental concerns and capacity-building needs.
PCSDS encouraged Dumaran officials to actively promote the Palawan Biosphere Reserve, recognizing the municipalityโs role in Critical Habitats and its distinction as a two-time Best ECAN Board awardee. Through this initiative, PCSDS underscores that protecting Palawanโs natural heritage is not only a mandate but a collective duty of every community within the Palawan Biosphere Reserve.
