As part of the Environmental Monitoring and Evaluation System (EMES) under the ECAN Monitoring and Evaluation Division (EMED), the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) conducted a Land Cover Change Analysis on selected watersheds in Brooke’s Point, Palawan, from April 11-14.
The PCSDS EMED conducted field validation and key informant interviews (KII) with the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) of the municipality of Brookeβs Point and Barangay Officials in Barong-Barong-Ipilan-Maasin Watershed and Maasin-Calasaguen Watershed. The purpose of this exercise was to conduct a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of the factors and circumstances that lead to land alterations or changes within the municipality, which have an impact on its municipal watersheds.
Ground data such as Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) readings, and Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) photos and videos were all collected during the field validation.
Once the analysis is finalized, the findings will be incorporated into the technical report to be prepared by the National Capital Accounting (NCA)-Sustainable Development (SD)- Geographical Information System (GIS) Section under EMED.,The report can serve as a reference for policy-making and recommendations by the local government and other interested parties who may benefit from this initiative.
The PCSDS EMED also organized Gender and Development (GAD) and Information, Education, and Communication activities related to the PCSD mandate under the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) Law. These activities were conducted for the barangay officials of the same municipality.
