𝑵𝑨𝑴𝑹𝑰𝑨 𝑯𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚 𝑩𝒓𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒉 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒇𝒆𝒓𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒐𝒎, 𝑩𝒊𝒏𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒐, 𝑴𝒂𝒏𝒊𝒍𝒂- On November 7, 2023, a collaboration meeting between the Australian Government represented by Mr. Jack Williams, Second Secretary – Political and Ms. Jodie Bisco, Program Officer from the Australian Embassy in Manila together with Geoscience Australia Senior Geo Spatial Advisor Mr. Jonah Sullivan, Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff led by Executive Director Atty. Teodoro Jose S. Matta, MNSA, National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) led by OIC Director Ms. Sylvia L. Esperanza, and the Philippine Navy Naval Meteorological and Oceanographic Center (NAVMETOC) led by COMMANDER CAPT. PETER G. TOLENTINO III PN to improve the sustainable use of marine resources by harnessing zoning, mapping and cartography skills of Philippine governments agencies.
Cartography Program scholars from NAMRIA and NAVMETOC presented their feedback on the on-going Category B Cartography Training highlighting practical comprehension of hydrographic surveying and nautical cartography and challenges encountered. Future collaborations on coastal assessments and mapping were also discussed including marine protected area delineations in consideration of the changing climate, aligned with the Strategic Environmental Plan (SEP) for Palawan.
