12 January 2024 – An Asian Box Turtle was handed over to the custody of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) by the personnel from PNP – Maritime Group 2nd Special Operation Unit.
The turtle was found during the operation of the aforementioned Unit this morning at Sitio Talaudyong, Barangay Bacungan.
The identified turtle is a sub-adult female; measures 19.5cm (carapace length) and 17.8 cm (carapace width). It is scheduled to be released back into its natural habitat.
The Asian Leaf Turtle is listed as โNear Threatened” in IUCN Redlist and is listed under CITES Appendix II.
