PCSD Staff, Ir. May Ann Rapio and Ms. Ma. Chari Le Janne Cantara, participated in a two-day Local Policy Development Workshop at Aziza Paradise Hotel on November 13-14, 2024, marking the final phase of Palawan’s Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR) Plan. This initiative aims to strengthen the resilience of Palawan’s forest ecosystems using nature-based solutions. It further aims to restore ecological functionality and boost human wellbeing across deforested and degraded forest landscapes.

During the workshop, Ms. Rapio highlighted PCSDS’s technical role in the FLR plan, specifically through GIS and Remote Sensing to identify priority restoration areas. She also supported the review of the FLR plans and key maps (Opportunity, Priority, and Enforcement) from local government units (LGUs). Ms. Cantara provided guidance on the legal aspects of the plans. The workshop concluded with discussions on ordinance validity and next steps.

The adoption of the FLR plans by Palawan’s LGUs will help address ecosystem challenges, ensuring the province’s natural resources are preserved for future generations.
