In support of forest growth in thee region, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) participated in the annual celebration of Philippine National Arbor Day (PNAD), which was held at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm, Barangay Montible, Puerto Princesa City, on June 25.
Spearheaded by the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO), the annual tree-planting event brought together various representatives from the public and private sectors. This collaborative effort aligns with Presidential Proclamation No. 396, s. 2003, which mandates the active participation of different sectors in the country during the reforestation event.
First observed in 2004 through Proclamation No. 643, the Philippine National Arbor day seeks to cultivate love and concern for the environment through tree-planting activities, reinforcing the nationβs resolve to combat the effects of climate change and support biodiversity conservation efforts in the region. The PCSDS has consistently played an active and supportive role in these endeavors.
This yearβs PNAD resulted in the planting of 3,000 seedlings in the province of Palawan alone. The significant number of trees planted contributes to the preservation and restoration of our regionβs forests.
