On May 3, the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS)-Calamian joined the ocular inspections of a fishing vessel, F/B JACKIEMORIBEAR-2, which ran aground on the Balinsasayaw Coral Garden, in Bgy. Lajala, in Coron, Palawan, causing damage to the coral reef.
The incident, which occurred at 7: 30 am on May 3, alarmed the local government units (LGU) of Coron, prompting the Coron Municipal Agriculture Office (CMAO), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and PCSDS-Calamian to conduct a proactive investigation on the extent of the damage and determine any possibility of oil spill.
The findings of the ocular inspections will enable the PCSDS to institute mitigating measures, in collaboration with other local government agencies and its partners, to avert further damage in the area.
