The Monitoring and Management of Marine Resources Component is being delivered by the Staff in partnership with the AIMS. The event was actively participated by officials of southern Palawan municipalities held at Shing Spa and Resort, Brooke’s Point, Palawan.

The activity presented the results of the recent coral reef surveys in the Municipalities of Balabac and Quezon, Palawan using the ReefCloud and ReefScan technology. This further introduced and popularized the capability of ReefCloud and ReefScan technology as a state-of-the-art scientific approach to an open-access platform, capable of processing coral reef image datasets 700x faster through the aid of Artificial Intelligence. ReefScan as an unmanned above-water coastal environment health monitoring device is seen as a great help in providing robust information to aid in coastal health condition assessment and management in support of Coastal and Marine ECAN. The participants expressed their enthusiasm for this timely and relevant technology, highlighting the opportunities for more efficient monitoring and assessment of marine areas of Palawan.

The MRI Project is receiving implementation funding from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Government of Australia.
