The activity is part of the 6-year project entitled Implementing the National Framework on Access and Benefit Sharing of Genetic Resources and Associated Traditional Knowledge in the Philippines (ABS Project), funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and implemented by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Biodiversity Management Bureau (DENR-BMB) in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
The said activity aims to (1) consider CNAs comments in the draft policy measure including the various entry points and management measures for social and environmental safeguards and the appropriate gender-responsive provisions and mechanisms; (2) refine the current draft policy and incorporate concerns relating to streamlining and harmonizing the various agency processes relevant to the grant of access and the execution of relevant ABS Agreement that meets the requirements of Republic Act No. 11032 or the Ease of Doing Business Law; (3) identify further necessities and requirements per agency before the revised draft may be made ready for adoption by the respective heads of the competent national authorities; and (4) assess the potential social and environmental risks and impacts, with emphasis on gender and cultural dimensions.

Present in the workshop are representatives from the respective CNAs, including the DA, DENR-BMB and DENR Central Office, NCIP, and PCSD, as well as IP representatives from Region III. Further, the workshop session for SESSA was also participated by representatives from various research and academic institutions.
