Taytay, Palawan โ The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) – ECAN Education and Extension Division (EEED) conducted a three-day Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign in Taytay from March 25 to 27, 2025. The event marked the anniversary of the Palawan Biosphere Reserve (BR), which was declared by the United Nations Educational Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on March 27, 1990, recognizing Palawan as a Learning Laboratory for Sustainable Development and a model for the co-existence of humans and nature. It also celebrated National Womenโs Month, highlighting the role of gender equality in conservation efforts.
The campaign aimed to educate students and educators about the Palawan BR and key environmental laws. Held at Central Taytay Senior High School, Palawan State University – Taytay, and San Brendan College Inc., discussions covered Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan Act (RA 7611), Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act (RA 9147), and Safe Spaces Act (RA 11313), focusing on environmental conservation, wildlife protection, and the prevention to Gender-Based Sexual Harassment. The Biosphere Reserveโs three main functionsโconservation, development, and logistics supportโwere emphasized, showcasing how Palawan balances protecting natural resources while fostering sustainable growth.
To engage the wider community, an exhibit at Fort Sta. Isabel showcased the significance of the Palawan BR. The exhibit featured displays on biodiversity, conservation efforts, and PCSDSโ initiatives.
PCSD, designated as the on-site management authority of the Palawan BR, continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable development, conservation, and education.
