ππ¨π―ππ¦πππ« π, ππππ; πππ¬π’π ππ’ππ², ππ‘π’π₯π’π©π©π’π§ππ¬ β The PCSDS EMED attended the closing meeting of the CSIRO project “Establishing Baseline for Marine Litter in the Philippines.” Held at the Discovery Suites in Pasig City, the event saw participation from the Australian Embassy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and academic partners, including Western Philippines University, Davao del Sur State College, Ateneo de Davao University, and UP-Marine Science Institute.
The event highlighted the projectβs achievements, with a wrap-up presentation detailing CSIRO’s methodologies and findings on marine plastic litter in the Philippines. Attendees also heard from participants about their experiences and the application of their learnings within their institutions. An interactive session allowed stakeholders to share insights, feedback, and suggestions on potential future directions for managing plastic pollution in the Philippines.
The collaborative initiative underscored the critical need for ongoing efforts to address marine pollution in the region.
The project which is going into phase 2 shall consider specific needs of the different stakeholders involved with the project. In order to capitalize on this opportunity, PCSDS shall assist Western Philippines University as project lead in the province of Palawan on monitoring previously assessed areas for marine litter.
