The Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) highlighted the agency’s initiatives for the protection and management of archipelagic waters and the West Philippine Sea during their Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) campaign on Friday, September 19, 2025. This effort was carried out with a cleanup drive at BM Beach in Puerto Princesa City as part of the observance of Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo).

In a presentation, the agency emphasized its main strategy, the Environmentally Critical Areas Network (ECAN), the main strategy of RA 7611 or the Strategic Environmental Plan for Palawan (SEP) Law, that serves as a blueprint of sustainable development. Key programs, including the creation of Strategic Development Plan for the Kalayaan Islands Group, the declaration of Lawak Island as a Critical Habitat in the West Philippine Sea, and PCSDS’ chairmanship in the ATF-West Information Education Campaign Task Group (IECTG), were featured.

Also spotlighted was PCSDS’ study β€œPalawan: Not Part of China – Biogeography and History Has the Receipts,” which presents scientific, legal, and historical evidence affirming Palawan’s identity as part of the Philippines. In its publication, the agency encouraged citizens to read the study to counter misinformation about the province.

These activities aimed to reinforce the message: caring about what is ours isn’t just about policy and knowledge – it starts with our action.
