Mr. Jack Williams, Australian Embassy Second Secretary, and PCSDS Executive Director Atty. Teodoro Jose S. Matta briefly met on February 20, 2024, to discuss updates and future plans on the Marine Resources Initiative (MRI) Project.

During the meeting, Secretary Williams was informed of the status and pipeline activities of the four components implemented under the MRI Project. These components include a) Marine Spatial Mapping with Geoscience Australia and the University of Sydney; b) Monitoring and Management of Marine Resources with the Australian Institute of Marine Science; c) Enhancing the Role of Civil Society Organisations in Southeast Asia in Marine Resource Management, Maritime Security, and Policy Implementation with James Cook University; and d) Establishing a baseline of marine litter in the Philippines with Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).

The MRI Project is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) of the Government of Australia.
